Debbie Harry

Giger heard the music of Debbie Harry, Blondie, for the first time in 1978 while he was working on the Alien movie. For the first time in his life he was confronted with punk music and therefore Blondie was for Giger the queen of punk. He gladly accepted her offer to design the cover of her new album. Giger saw punk music in association with the image of wearing safety-pins as jewelry.

On the Koo-Koo-cover he replaced the safety-pin by acupuncture-needles. These needles reflect stimulation, electricity and power, evolving from air. Giger placed these needles through Debbie her head and only later realized that the needle near the eye reflects fire, the needle near the nose air, the needle near the mouth water and the needle near the neck reflects earth. In the video-clip a fifth needle reflecting the spirit was added.
